Happy Birthday America!!
This week was in the middle of our transfer week and Every Companionship in our District was switched up except for Brett and Me (ha ha). Transfer weeks are hard for us. We don't have appointments with the Young Missionaries that we are used to. We like the appointments, it keeps us busy, its helps our studying. Then you put a Holiday on top of that and that really changes things.
On the 4th of July we got up extra early so that we could pick up our Calhan and Limon Elders. So that we could be in the Monument Colorado Parade. The Elders only have so many miles, and this would have really ate up their miles. I made them blueberry muffins. I always made blueberry muffins for the 4th of July at home when the kids were growing up. We used to go to Emmett and pick blueberries and then we had a friend who always sold fireworks, so the deal was if the kids picked him a bunch of blueberries, he would trade us for fireworks. Great Motivation to get the kids to be happy about picking blueberries. After we dropped off the Elders we then went to the Star Spangled Philharmonic Colorado Springs Concert with the Welch's and Synders. (Senior Missionaries serving with us)
The concert was amazing. They played every branch of Military Service's Anthems and asked those veterans or active service members to stand as they played their song. That was so humbling. Actors told the stories of immigrants who came to America, of course while the music was playing in the background. These accounts told of their sacrifices. How families would send only parts of their families and sometimes both parents never made it to America to join them. They sailed for 21 days or sometimes longer. There would be so many people on the boat coming to America, that there was barely any room to move. Many got sick, some died, some didn't have people to come and get them. The focus was still the same, no matter the consequence of the journey. FREEDOM!
Music always brings about the spirit, but when it comes to My Country and God and music my heart swells with pride. Proud to be an American! I grew up with family who served our Country. My Dad who raised me served in the Air Force and the Army. My Brother served in the Navy. My Biological Dad served in the Air Force in Vietnam. I have cousins and friends who also have or are serving. I love our flag and what it represents. While yes we have those in political offices who are not really fighting for our Country.
In Doctrine & Covenants 101:80: And for this purpose have I established the Constitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto this very purpose and redeemed the land by the shedding of blood.
2 Nephi 1:7
7.Wherefore, this land is consecrated unto him who he shall bring. And if it so be that they shall serve him according to the commandments which he hath given, it shall be a land of liberty unto them; wherefore, they shall never be brought down into captivity; if so, it shall be because of iniquity; for if iniquity shall about cursed shall be the land for their sakes, but unto the righteous it shall be blessed forever.
1 Nephi: 19
And, I Nephi, beheld that the Gentiles that had gone out of captivity were delivered by the power of God out of the hands of all other nations.
America and the World today is not as it once was. Satan has a hold upon many who make our freedoms no Longer. We need to be a God Fearing People. I know that as we live righteously and live the commandments of God, that we will be blessed. Our Nations will be blessed. Nothing is more powerful than the Power of God our Heavenly Father.
